FM Sailing Fluffy Slot Gasket

from £3.00

Sold by the metre, our fluffy daggerboard slot gasket (known colloquially as “polar bear pubes”) is perfect for daggerboard boats such as the Streaker, 29er, Musto Skiff, and Supernova, as well as RS classes such as the RS Vareo, RS600, RS700, & RS800.

Available in 9mm widths, with an option to go for 9mm or 15mm “hair lengths”.

The “wool” is manufactured from environmentally friendly materials, and the adhesive backer is 3M - known for their strong holding adhesives.

Tips for fitting your new gasket:

Make sure the surface is properly prepped, any leftover adhesive from your old gasket must be completely removed, and the surface should be cleaned and fully dry before fitting. If you've got any acetone, or even nail polish remover - that's a great way to clean off any remaining debris from the area.

Make sure the new gasket isn't too cold, the ideal temperature range is between 10°C - 35°C. If the glue is too cold it will not adhere properly. The gasket and hull area can be lightly warmed with a hairdryer or a heat gun (on a low setting) if the temperature is too low.

After applying the gasket to your daggerboard case, press along the length of the gasket firmly to help the glue to adhere.

Allow enough time for the glue to fully set. It should take approx. 24 hours, possibly longer if it is outside the ideal temperature range, so this is not something you want to be doing on the first morning of your national championships. Give yourself plenty of time and get it done sooner rather than later!
